Windows and Mac Java Update

Do you see this logo on your computer?  When you see this logo in the bottom right-hand corner of your computer that means you need to update Java.

Java

Make sure when you are updating Java you uncheck the boxes that offer other downloads.  These other downloads include an antivirus install or a search engine plugin.

Updating Java to Versions 7.0 and 8.0 on a Mac OS X or macOS:

  1. Launch the Java Control Panel by clicking the Java icon under System Preferences.

  2. Click on the “Java” icon within System Preferences and click on update.

  3. Once you’re in Software Update, update your java to the recommended version displayed.

  4. Save all your work before clicking Install and Relaunch.  If the Java application does not restart manually restart your computer.

  5. To check that you have the updated version, repeat steps 1 and 2 to view when the “Java update was last run”. The date and time should be the same time you pressed install for the software update.

 

Updating Java to version 7.0 on a Windows 10, Windows 2008 server, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista, and Windows XP:

*You need to find the Java Control Panel. This Varies on what version of windows your computer has*

Java 7 Update 40 (7u40) and later versions
Starting with Java 7 Update 40, you can find the Java Control Panel through the Windows Start menu.
Launch the Windows Start menu
Click on Programs (All Apps on Windows 10)
Find the Java program listing
Click Configure Java to launch the Java Control Panel


Find the Java Control Panel – Versions below 7u40
Windows 10
Right-click on the Start button and select the Control Panel option.
In the Windows Control Panel, click on Programs.
Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.


Windows 8
Use search to find the Control Panel
Press Windows logo key + W to open the Search charm to search settings
OR
Drag the mouse pointer to the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click on the Search icon.
In the search box enter Java Control Panel
Click on Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.


Windows 7, Vista
Click on the Start button and then click on the Control Panel option.
In the Control Panel Search enter Java Control Panel.
Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.


Windows XP
Click on the Start button and then click on the Control Panel option.
Double click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.

 

Once you’re in the Java Control Panel:

  1. Click on the Java tab.
  2. Click the update tab and set the “Notify me:” to Before Downloading. Click on “Check for updates automatically” as well.
  3. Click update now. The java installer should appear on your screen! Once it appears, click install.

  4. Select the option called “install and relaunch”. The newest version of Java will begin to install itself on your computer and will reopen after the installation has completed.Java 6.jpg
