Stay on Track Using Technology!

It’s that time of year again where our New Year’s resolutions seem to have come to a halt. We all tell ourselves we will stick to our resolutions, whether they are going to the gym, drinking more water, studying more, etc. and then as the month of January goes on, we start to lose track of them. So we are here to help! Here are some great tips to help you stay on track with your healthy habits!

Keep a digital record of your progress.

This record could be a fitness tracking app such as MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, and much more. These applications help you keep track of what you eat, how you feel, and your daily exercise or physical activity. They are great tools for keeping track of your healthy eating and daily exercise!

Use a Step Counter

You may be familiar with FitBits and the Health app installed on many iPhones. These are excellent for helping you monitor how many steps you have taken, and they even allow you to set goals for yourself. If you set a goal for a certain number of steps per day, you will be more motivated to get up and move around. So get up and get those steps in!

Turn on Night Settings

One of the most important aspects of a healthy lifestyle is sleep. Many people do not know that the blue backlit screens of our phones and computers can negatively affect our sleep by making it harder for us to fall asleep at night. Most phones and computers have a setting that turns off the blue light at a certain time. You will still be able to see your screen perfectly without having to look at the blue-tinted light!

Make an Online Motivation Page

Many people create blogs, Instagram pages, or Pinterest inspiration pages to not only motivate themselves but other people too! These can be surprisingly helpful because you can personalize your page to include what inspires you. Whether it is full of pictures, quotes, or tips, it will help keep you motivated to reach your goals.

Start Now, Not Tomorrow

We all have those days where we say that we will start our resolution tomorrow, or Monday, or next week, and usually, when that time comes, we continue to procrastinate. So instead of waiting to start later, start now! You and your body will be thankful you did!

Love Yourself. 

This is one thing that many of us fail to do, yet is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Loving yourself is the most important step of all. You can try to change yourself as much as you physically can, but you will always be the same YOU. Why try to be someone that you are not? Instead of trying to change yourself, try to make yourself better. Accepting yourself for who you are is the first step in self-love. Treat yourself with kindness, respect, and compassion just as you would treat someone else.

Living an active, healthy lifestyle can benefit each and every one of us more than we know. Consciously making healthier choices and decisions will add up over time; for example taking the stairs instead of the elevator, eating an apple instead of that bag of chips on the table, or walking instead of driving somewhere. These choices will create a positive long term affect on your life. To reach your goals, stay positive, don’t procrastinate, motivate yourself, keep track of your habits, and most importantly, love yourself.
